Three MSABA teams, one a 14U squad, captured the top three spots in the 2002 Annual 15U Wooden Bat Bash in Franklin. The A-Team topped the Hendersonville Big Dogs 5-2 in the Championship Game, after the Big Dogs knocked off the Franklin Bandits (14U) 4-2 in the semifinals.

In pool play, the A-Team went 3-0, while the Big Dogs and Bandits both went 2-1. A pair of wins for the Big Dogs against the Huntsville Rockets (2-0) and tournament host Worth Wildcats (3-1) preceeded a 7-3 loss to the Wilson Sox. The Bandits dropped their first pool game 4-2 to the A-Team before sweeping South Cheektowonga (NY) Inferno 8-4 and Worth Copperheads 9-3.

In double elimination play, the Big Dogs dropped a first round decision in a rematch with the Huntsville Rockets and had to play four games to work their way back through the losers bracket to get to the finals. Wins over South Cheektowonga (7-6), Wilson Sox (8-2), and Huntsville Rockets (6-5) in yet a third rematch, placed the Big Dogs in the semifinal game.

Meanwhile, the A-Team and Bandits rolled through the bracket undefeated to meet in the winners bracket final. The Bandits knocked off S. Cheektowonga (1-0) and Huntsville Rockets (3-1) before dropping a 9-1 decision to the A-Team.

The Bandits, who won the MSABA 14U League Championship Series earlier this week, move to 53-14 on the season. The Big Dogs are now 36-12 (and a perfect 10-0 in Federal Division play) and will play in the MSABA 15U League Championship Series later this week.
