Norfleet Earns Costal Plains Honors

MSABA Alum Matt Norfleet (Worth, Nashville Lightning) was recently named the Diamond Defensive Player of the Coastal Plain League Championship Tournament, knotching a win against the Wilmington Sharks and recording a save in the semifinal win over the Petersburg Generals.

Norfleet, who will be a junior at Tennessee Wesleyan this fall, had an outstanding season with the Florence RedWolves, leading them to a 2nd place finish the Championship Tournament after winning the South Division in the first half. Matt finished 1st in the league in Saves (13), Appearances (25), and Games Finished (23).

In addition to being the Coastal Plain Saves Leader with 13, Matt recorded an impressive 1.15 ERA. In 39 innings of work, he struck out 40 hitters while only allowing 21 hits and 16 walks. holding opposing batters to an anemic .169 average. He did not allow a single run in his final 22 appearances.

Last spring, Norfleet earned 2nd Team All-American, 1st Team All-Region XII, and 1st Team All-Appalachian Conference honors as the sophomore closer led Tennessee Wesleyan to a 41-10 record, the AAC Championship, and a runner-up finish in the Regionals. He was also named 1st Team All-Conference and 1st team All-Region in 2002 following his freshman season.
