|The Atlanta Braves signed Jeff Bennett (Wilson Sox, Shoetiques) to a contract this week and invited him to Spring Training. The 25 year old right-hander spent 2005 with the AAA Nashville Sounds, recording 13 saves in 49 appearances while compiling a 3.03 ERA. Bennett recorded 56 strikeouts in 62 innings of work while allowing only 25 walks.
Jeff played as a 16 year old for the Wilson Sox in 1996. After an outstanding season, he was picked up by Greg Sirko to play with the Shoetiques in the Babe Ruth post-season. Jeff was named to the World Series All Tournament Team as Shoetiques finished second. He also went to another Babe Ruth World Series in 1997 with Mike Rippetoe's 17-18 Shoetiques squad.
Bennett was originally drafted and signed by the Pirates in 1998, and was later selected by the Milwaukee Brewers in the 2003 Rule 5 Draft. He worked 71 Major League innings as a reliever in 60 appearances for the Brewers in 2004.
