| Jordan Abell (Riverdale, 2011) verbally committed to Lipscomb University on Saturday afternoon while watching the Bison softball team practice. Lipscomb made her an outstanding offer which ultimately trumped an equally outstanding offer from UT-Martin. She was also being recruited by the University of Tennesse.
Lipscomb is coached by Kristen Peck Ryman. Coach Ryman played shortstop and centerfield at Lipscomb University and took a position as a graduate assistant following a stellar career as a Bison. She took over the team in 2006 as the head coach and is entering her 5th year in that position. In 2008, LIpscomb ended the season in a four way tie for first place in the Atlantic Sun Conference, and was awarded the #1 seed in the conerence tournament. In 2009, they finished 2nd in the conference and advanced to the Semifinals before dropping a game to Mercer which left them one game away from the NCAA Regional Tournament.
Lipscomb's five player 2010 signing class featured players from Texas, Oklahoma, and Georgia along with a player from St. Benedict near Memphis and Haley Elliott (Nighthawks, Trinity Christian). Their 2010 schedule features Tennessee Tech, Middle Tennessee, Kentucky, Kansas, Georgetown, and Alabama-Birmingham, and will be playing in a tournament in Hawaii where they will face Hawaii, California, and Tokoyo Women's College. They are expecting a great season as they return virtually their entire starting lineup.
Jordan spent the summer at shortstop and second base for Team Worth while hitting in the two hole, but filled in at third and behind the plate when needed during the fall season. She started at third as a freshman at Blackman High School and at short as a sophomore. She transferred to defending State Champion Riverdale High School for her junior year where she is expected to contribute immediately in the middle infield while hitting in the middle of the order.
Congratulations Jordan! |
