Roberts Verbals to Chattanooga

Sarah Beth Roberts (Mt. Juliet, 2011) made a verbal commitment earlier this afternoon to accept a softball scholarship to the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. Sarah Beth was being recruited by a number of schools including Tennessee, UT Martin, Morehead State, Belmont, Lipscomb, and ETSU among others, but the offer from Chattanooga was too good to turn down.

Sarah Beth joined the Team Worth program as a nine year old in 2002 and has been with the squad throughout her travel career playing catcher and third base. She earned All District honors last spring at Mt Juliet prior to leading Team Worth to the 16U ASA National Championships. Her 9th year with the program promises to be her best of a long, outstanding career as a Team Worth star.

Chattanooga is a member of the Southern Conference and is led by Head Coach Frank Reed who is now in his 9th year. He led Chattanooga to the NCAA Tournament in 2002, 2003, 2004, 2008 and 2009, finishing first in the conference regular season 6 times (2002, 2003, 2004, 2007, 2008, 2009) amassing 316 wins during that time. Prior to coming to Chattanooga, he was the head coach at Chattanooga State Technical College for 10 years where his teams were ranked in the Top 10 JUCO polls during 8 of those years. He also served the Dominican Republic National team as hitting coach for four years and took over as the head coach in 2006.

The Mocs have a challenging schedule this spring, including: Oklahoma, MIchigan, Georgia, Kansas, Kentucky, Georgetown, Massachusetts, Virginia Tech, and Tennessee Tech. Their four player 2010 signing class included two players from Oklahoma, one from Arizona, and a Tennesse girl from Rhea County. Their Olympic caliber stadium recently received a significant upgrade with the installation of AstroTurf behind the plate and down the foul lines complete with Chattanooga and Frost Stadium logos.

Congratulations Sarah Beth!
